The snappily titled World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on Thursday (17 May) aims to focus our minds on how the internet and other ICTs can benefit society. This year's theme looks at opportunities for connecting young people.
Various UN agencies are holding a whole host of awareness-raising activities over the coming fortnight, including a session on how developing countries can take advantage of ICTs and improve access and connectivity. These events will culminate in a consultation meeting for November's Internet Governance Forum.
Watch out for the launch of the Global Information Society Watch report on 22 May, which will scrutinise the progress made by governments and other organisations since WSIS.
